CONFIDENCE is running a little low with the national players following their 4-0 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday. The players are upset over the manner by which they were defeated by the English Premier League side.
Captain Safiq Rahim said Arsenal exposed all their weaknesses at the National Stadium. "We could not bounce back no matter what we did. We are disappointed because we let them score soft goals," said Safiq in Bandar Utama yesterday.
"We made too many mistakes. The first and second goals should not have gone in. Arsenal were technically better in all aspects of the game. They scored from our mistakes.
"Everyone in the team is disappointed with the result. We could have done better. It is important that we now bounce back from this defeat."
Safiq had one good opportunity to score on Wednesday but his free kick in the first half was tipped over by Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The midfielder said the team must put on a brave front when they face Liverpool tomorrow.
"We need to remain motivated and composed for this match. Liverpool are here for a good game and we need to use this opportunity to test our strengths and strategies," said Safiq.
"We need to realise that even a minor mistake can lead to goals against top teams. It is important that we cut back on mistakes besides playing with more confidence,
"I know it is difficult to be at your best after a defeat but we need to do it at all cost. Our main goal here is to learn from these matches."
