Over 67,000 tickets sold for Malaysia-Liverpool match

Tickets sales for the remaining two friendly matches involving two English Premier League (EPL) clubs against Malaysia, has been overwhelming, said organiser ProEvents International.

"The response from the fans has been very good," said ProEvents managing director San Boon Wah, here today.

He disclosed that for a match involving Liverpool tomorrow, some 67,000 tickets had already been sold so far.

"The amount is higher than the Manchester United (Asia Tour) match in 2009.

"Among the main reasons why the Liverpool match had an overwhelming response is because the team is making their maiden appearance in Malaysia," he said.

For Chelsea's match on July 21, at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, some 45,000 tickets have been sold so far, he said.

"Tickets are still available for both matches," he said, adding that 83,000 tickets were printed for each match.

San was met after attending the ticket presentation ceremony for the  Chelsea-Malaysia match, to school children, by Maybank at Menara Maybank here today.

Twenty-thousand students from over 100 schools in the Klang Valley will have a lifetime experience watching the match between 'The Blues' and 'Harimau Muda'.

"Chelsea will come to Malaysia with their full squad. The team also have a lot of star players such as Peter Chec and Fernando Torres.

"The ticket sales (for Chelsea) will pick-up towards the end because people want to watch the two matches first. Once the two matches are over, then it (ticket) will start picking up. I still want to advise them to get their ticket early," said San.

The match between Liverpool FC and Harimau Malaya will kick-off at 5.45pm tomorrow, while the Chelsea-Harimau Muda match will start at 8.45pm on July 21.

San said that ProEvents had reached the tickets sales target for the Arsenal-Malaysia match on July 13.

"We sold 65,000 tickets for the match. It is because Arsenal has not been in Malaysia for 12 years and the last time they were here was in 1999.

"Even the team themselves were not sure what the response will be. After they walked into the stadium, they were very happy to see the size of the crowd. It was beyond their expectation," said San.

Arsenal FC defeated Malaysia's Harimau Malaya 4-0.
