Safee Sali returns with the goals

Malaysian striker Safee Sali marked his return from injury with a brace against English Premier League giants Liverpool in Malaysia’s 3-6 loss at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

The Pelita Jaya striker was only on the pitch for less than 10 minutes but scored a brace in the 79th and 81st minute.

The two goals were also Safee’s first goal for Malaysia this year since he scored his last goal against Indonesia in the Suzuki Cup Asean Football Federation (AFF) Championships final last December.

Liverpool at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday. “Scoring goals is a great way to return from injury and it is special as it was against a top side like Liverpool,” said an ecstatic Safee.

“I didn’t expect to score against Liverpool because I had just recovered from an injury so scoring two against them is a big accomplishment for me.
“It’s extra special moment for me to score against Liverpool as I’m a Manchester United fan.”

Safee sustained a knee injury during the Asian Zone World Cup first round, first-leg match in Bukit Jalil on June 29.

The Tapah-born player had to miss the second leg in Taiwan on July 3 and the friendly against Arsenal last Wednesday.

“I feel much more comfortable with my movement now and I have fully recovered from my knee injury,” said Safee.

“However, I have to work harder in training to get back my fitness before we play Singapore.”

Safee’s performance would be a boost for the national side ahead of the Asia Zone World Cup second round first leg qualifier against Singapore at the Jalan Besar Stadium on July 23.
