The Singapore Lions will be back in Malaysian football next year.
After a lapse of 17 years, Singapore will be sending their Under-23 squad – known as Singapore Young Lions – to play in the 14-team Super League. At the same time, the Malaysian Under-23 team, also known as Harimau Muda A (Malaysian Tigers A), will feature in the S-League.
FA of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah announced the four-year collaboration between the FAM and the FA of Singapore (FAS) after a signing ceremony at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.
“It is a win-win situation between the two countries. Under this new partnership there will be more friendly matches between the national teams and also between the age group teams,” said FAS president Zainuddin Nordin.
“This marks another important milestone between the FAM and FAS. It is a new partnership between great neighbours.”
Tengku Abdullah hoped that the new arrangement would revive the kind of rivalry that both teams shared during their heyday.
