KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s friendly match against English Premier League giants Chelsea on the July 21 might see some new faces donning the national jersey.
The national team are down to play Singapore on July 23 in the second round of the Asian Zone World Cup qualifying match and it looks like national coach Datuk K. Rajagopal will have to field new faces against Chelsea.
Julian Kam, the CEO of ProEvents Group, the promoters for the Chelsea Asia Tour 2011, said that they have talked to Rajagopal on the line-up for the match.
“I am aware that the national team will play Singapore on July 23 but its not necessarily that we will play only the national players,” said Julian at the Celcom “Who Will Win” campaign launch here yesterday.
“We have a big pool of national players including the younger ones so it won’t be a problem. I believe it will be a great opportunity for the youngsters to play against Chelsea.”
Julian said that the team list for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are all down for a playing tour in against the national team this month, will be known later this week.
“The tickets sale is going on well. Around 48,000 tickets for the Liverpool match and 30,000 for the Arsenal and Chelsea matcehs have been sold since last week,”
“As usual we expect that the ticket sale to shoot up as the match day edges closer and after the players’ lists are announced.”
