Former Sarawak coach launches Milo Sports camp in Kuching

Awang Mahyan, the famed Sarawak football coach of the 1980s, launched the 4th Milo "Play More Learn More" junior sports camp over the weekend at Kolej Politeknik in Kuching.

About 350 schoolchildren below 14 years old from various ethnic groups from nearby villages participated. The sports camp was jointly organised by RT Kampung Matang Lot under its chairman Ramzie Narudin, volunteers, coaches and parents of the players.

In the first hour of the camp, the children were taught the basic skills of football, netball and volleyball by qualified coaches. They later took part in a competition-cum-carnival.

Ng Ping Loong, the sports marketing manager of Nestle-Milo, who was at the camp, said: "At the camp, the children develop the right attitude and values to hold them in good stead to face the future with confidence.

"They also learn through play to appreciate the importance of sportsmanship, perseverance, unity, respect for opponents and leadership.

He added that the "Play More Learn More" campaign would add value to the government's vision of 1 Child 1 Sport.

The next camp will be held on Sept 8 at Dataran Kubang Gajah, Temerloh, Pahang.

The top four teams in the three sports received medals and Milo products. The camp, which started at 8am, ended at about 2.30pm with a clean up of the school field.

Results (all finals) -- Volleyball: Matang Lot Volleyball Club bt Wardah Boys 2-0; Netball: SK Telaga Air bt SKT Team 7-0; Football: Sek Keb Telaga Air bt Perumahan Heritage 2-0.
