Joseph Kallang enjoying time with Terengganu

Midfielder Joseph Kallang Tie left Sarawak after three fruitless season with them.

The 24-year-old believed that he has made the right decision in joining Terengganu as he made an immediate impact in his debut season by helping the east coast side emerge champions in the 2010 Malaysia Games (Sukma) and also lifting the FA Cup title this season.

“My reason for moving out of Sarawak was to gain experience and I am glad that I made the right decision to join Terengganu,” said Joseph from Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

Joseph has been a revelation with the Turtles under coach Irfan Bakti and has won a regular role in midfield. He has even won a national call-up and made his international debut against the visiting English Premier League (EPL) giants Chelsea in a friendly match here last month.

“Playing in the top flight has made me a better player and it makes a lot of difference compared to the lower Premier League,” said Joseph, who was previously playing in the Premier League with Sarawak.

“The confidence level of the team is high and we should make an strong impression in the Malaysia Cup competition.

“There is good quality in the team and we should make it past to the knock-out rounds. And from there we will take one match at a time,” said Joseph.

Terengganu are drawn in Group B with Negri Sembilan, PKNS and Sime Darby FC.
In the Super League, Joseph has managed to score only one goal but his work rate is excellent and often lends support to strikers Mohd Ashaari Shamsuddin and Abdul Manaf Mamat.

“I hope to improve on my scoring rate and play a bigger role in Terengganu’s bid to win the Malaysia Cup after a long time,” said Joseph.

For the record, Terengganu last won the Malaysia Cup 10 years ago.
