Kedah delighted over away win at Johor

One down, two to go. Kedah have won the first of their three away Malaysia Cup group matches when they beat Johor 2-0 on Tuesday.

The reason the Canaries have had to play their first three Group A matches away from home is because the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar is being returfed and it will only be ready after Sept 14.

The Canaries are delighted to have started their campaign with a win over Johor, thanks to national midfielder Mohd Khyril Muhymeen’s brace at the Larkin Stadium.

Now, the Canaries face another tricky trip. This time to Kota Kinabalu to take on Sabah at the Likas Stadium.

And coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan is hoping that they can return from the trip with full points again.

“The constant travelling is very taxing to the players,” said the former national coach just before departing for Kota Kinabalu with the team yesterday.

“But my players are aware of the situation and I am not too worried because they have a strong desire to collect full points.

“We have cleared an important hurdle by winning our opening game. It has boosted team morale.”

Wan Jamak can also take comfort from the way his team played in the opening match against Johor.

“What impressed me most was that even Perlis skipper Armizie (Ainureen Ramli), who is on loan with us, carried out his centreback duty to perfection,” said Wan Jamak.

“After such an encouraging start, I am looking forward to my players maintaining the momentum against Sabah.”
