Malaysia Cup matches postponed for Malaysia-Australia friendly

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have changed the dates for the quarter-final and semi-final fixtures of the Malaysia Cup to allow the national team to play an international friendly against Australia on Oct 7.

The quarter-final fixtures, originally scheduled to be held on Oct 4 (first leg) and Oct 8 (return leg), will now be held on Oct 10 and Oct 14.

The first leg of the semi-final on Oct 14 has now been pushed to Oct 18. The return leg remains on Oct 22.

FAM competitions committee chairman Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said that the decision was taken after considering all other options.

“We decided to postpone the quarter-final and semi-final fixtures after deliberating for two hours,” Hamidin said after chairing the meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.
“We also spoke to the teams involved before making the decision.”

The committee have also decided that the National Under-23 players will not feature in both legs of the Malaysia Cup semi-final.

This is to allow the Under-23 players to compete in the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Cup in Hanoi from Oct 17- 24.

The tournament will also see the participation of Under-23 teams from Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The tournament will serve as a warm-up for the teams before the SEA Games are held in Indonesia from Nov 11-22.

Hamidin, aware of criticisms over the constant change of fixtures, has promised to work closer with the national team in the future.
