Malaysian players in Slovakia league yet to get chance to play

The three Malaysian players who are currently on a two-month loan stint with Slovakian club Vion Zlate Moravce have yet to see action in the Corgon Liga (top league).

Centreback Mohd Fadhli Shas and midfielders Wan Zack Wan Haikal and Mohd Irfan Fazail have only trained and travelled with the club for their league matches.

National Under-23 coach Ong Kim Swee said the boys had only featured in friendly matches so far.
“I don’t expect them to jump into the first-team, yet.

“They will gradually make the cut after playing in the friendly matches.

“It is good for these boys to fight for places in a competitive league,” said Kim Swee yesterday.
The Slovakian league is rated 38th strongest in the world.

Its top professional side MSK Zilina are playing in the Champions League.

Last week, Vion Zlate Moravce held MSK Zilina to a 2-2 draw.

Kim Swee said it was only the beginning for the Malaysian boys and that “they still have a long way to go in their bid to make a breakthrough in Europe”.

“It is not easy to get into a professional club in Europe.

“The important thing is for them to give their best and, hopefully, one day we will see Malaysians playing in the top leagues in Europe,’’ he said.

The trio’s stint in Slovakia will end in November but they returned home on Monday for national duty – to prepare for the Asian Zone final round qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympics.

Malaysia will open their campaign against top seeds Japan at the Tosu Stadium in Fukuoka on Sept 21.

The trio will fly back to Vion after the Japan match before returning home for the remaining Asian Zone qualifiers against Syria (Nov 23) and Bahrain (Nov 27) in Kuala Lumpur.

Kim Swee said the trio would be put through their paces with the national Under-23 squad ahead of their final warm-up against the Omani Olympic side at the UiTM Mini Stadium in Shah Alam today (5pm).

Last week, Kim Swee’s boys held Iraqi club Arbil SC to a 0-0 draw in a friendly.
