Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of T-Team at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium was Selangor's third this season after losing home and away to the Kuala Terengganu outfit in the Super League.
Coach K. Devan said Selangor were not jinxed against T-Team and even refuted suggestions his players could be adversely affected psychologically from earlier defeats.
"Lack of finishing let us down and had our strikers been more clinical, we could have scored two or three goals," said Devan.
Selangor took a while to get going and did not have a shot on goal until the 10th minute when Shafiq Rahim failed to capitalise on the mistake of on-loan goalkeeper Jibrail Kamaron Baharin who hesitated when coming out to challenge for the ball.
The coach said it was unfortunate that Jibrail was not fully tested by Selangor strikers as the jittery new T-Team keeper appeared to be the weakest link.
"We played like a typical away team in the first half, trying to assess the situation while allowing the home side to dictate terms in the beginning," he said.
"We took charge late in the first half and began to control the match after the break but then our job was made harder when our opponents managed to take the lead about 20 minutes from time."
Devan, however, said all was not lost as Selangor still have a chance to end up group winners but must win all five remaining matches in Group D.
Meanwhile, T-Team coach Yunus Alif said his forwards were equally guilty of missing a number of scoring opportunities.
"We could have won by three or four goals actually but that is not too important as our aim was to get three points in our opening match," said Yunus.
"We are more concerned with our trip to Kuala Lumpur as we feel the City Boys, who beat Police 3-0, will be tougher to tame."
T-Team lost home and away to Kuala Lumpur in the Super League earlier in the season and Yunus is determined to end his team's losing run on Saturday.
"Our victory over Selangor came at a price as captain Rusdi Talib, midfielder Zairo Anuar Zailani and forward Fitri Omar have all picked up knocks," the coach disclosed.
"Hopefully, all three will recover fully within the next 72 hours as it will be hard to take on Kuala Lumpur away without our key players."
