Selangor to include 2 English players against Singapore in Sultan Selangor Cup

Selangor will be fielding two former English Premier League players from Liverpool and Manchester United besides Safee Sali in facing Singapore in this year's edition of the Sultan Selangor Cup on Oct 1.

The match, which enters its 10th edition this year, is part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the reign of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor.

The chairman of the match's organising committee Datuk Abdul Karim Munisar, however, declined to reveal the names of the former EPL players.

"We are bringing the former EPL players to balance our squad with Singapore's as they have naturalised foreign players in their team," he told reporters here.

He said Safee Sali, who now plays for Pelita Jaya in Indonesia and is currently undergoing trials at Cardiff City which is owned by Malaysian tycoon Datuk Chan Tien Ghee, would be available to play for Selangor in the match.

Kick off is at 9.30pm at the Shah Alam Stadium. The match will be preceded by a friendly of veterans of both teams, a performance by rocker Amy Search, a parachuting performance and fireworks show.<
