Negri Sembilan showed that they are back to their best when they downed fancied Terengganu 1-0 in their Malaysia Cup Group B match at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi yesterday.
Shahurain Abu Samah was the toast for the Deer when he notched the winning goal in the 65th minute.
Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah’s boys certainly deserved victory after working hard and putting pressure on the visitors from the starting whistle.
They were in complete control of the match and had the Turtles at their mercy, thanks to their attacking quartet of Shahurain, S. Kunalan, Hairuddin Omar and skipper Mohd Shukor Adan.
Seasoned campaigner Hairuddin had two close calls in the first-half.
First, his scissor-kick attempt from inside the box was stopped by goalkeeper Mohd Sharbinee Allawee in the 12th minute.
Then came an unbelievable miss when he ballooned a point-blank sitter in the 28th minute.
Terengganu, who were without key midfielders Joseph Kallang Tie and Ismail Faruki, barely threatened the Negri defence.
