Fan clubs urge fans to behave during matches

Four fan clubs here have supported the call by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Terengganu FA president Datuk Che Mat Jusoh for fans to act accordingly during the first-leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-final clash between the Turtles and Kelantan at the Sultan Ismail Stadium here tomorrow.

The clubs – Peteh, Terengganu FC, Ganu Soccer.Net (GSN) and Ultras Terengganu are taking the call for the fans to behave during the match seriously.

Terengganu FC president Hazrul Hanafi said violent behaviour such as throwing bottles and fireworks onto the field were not the culture of football fans here.

“Such acts will not only disrupt the flow of the match but also the players’ focus. The fans themselves will pay for it if our team is beaten,” he said.

He added that Turtles fans must be more mature in order to preserve the team’s reputation as a major football powerhouse in the country.

Peteh secretary Wan Mohd Azmi Wan Ngah said the calls made were timely and hoped that the fans would heed the advice given.

“Our club’s goal is to develop a community of football fans, who know how to control themselves and behave accordingly. There is no need to provoke the opposing fans or the opposing players,” said Wan Mohd.

Meanwhile, GSN spokesman Ahmad Shariman said the responsibility to curb chaos and violent conduct at the Stadium falls on the shoulders of everyone and not just the police.

“If everyone plays a part, then trouble will not occur,” he said.

The return leg of the quarter-final between Kelantan and Terengganu is scheduled for Oct 14 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru.
