The 2011 Malaysia Cup final will be held at the Shah Alam Stadium on Oct 29, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) decided today.
FAM vice president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the decision to host the final in Shah Alam was made because the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil was undergoing upgrading works, especially the laying of a new track.
"We have discussed with the Shah Alam Stadium management and they have agreed to restore the field, seats and floodlights as per FAM's requirement by Oct 21," he told reporters after chairing FAM's competition committee meeting at Wisma FAM here today.
Hamidin said the FAM Competitions Committee would inspect the Shah Alam Stadium to ensure the stadium was ready to stage the final.
"If the management of the stadium fails to meet the requirements set by FAM, we will look for an alternative venue to stage the final," he said.
Meanwhile, speaking of a fracas which saw referee Mohd Nafeez Abd. Wahap sending off five players in the match between East Coast rivals Kelantan and Terengganu during a Malaysia Cup first leg quarterfinal match at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu last night, Hamidin said FAM was waiting for the match official's report.
"We are still waiting for a full report from the Match Commissioner before the matter is discussed by the FAM Disciplinary Committee," he said.
In the ill-tempered match, three Kelantan players - Shakir Shaari, Mohd Daudsu Jamaludin, Aziz Ismail together with Ismail Faruqi and Zubir Azmi from Terengganu - were given the marching orders by Mohd Nafeez.
Terengganu beat Kelantan 3-1 to strengthen their semifinal hopes.<
