Malaysia finished third in the four-nation VFF Cup Invitational Under-23 football tournament in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The national Under-23 squad preparing for the SEA Games in Indonesia next month collected four points in the round-robin competition.
Malaysia wrapped up their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Vietnam on Sunday. Malaysia lost their opening match 3-1 to Uzbekistan and edged Myanmar 2-1.
Uzbekistan finished top with seven points, followed by Vietnam on five points. Myanmar finished last without any points. Vietnam had earlier thrashed Myanmar 5-0 and drew 1-1 with Uzbekistan.
Defending champions Malaysia are in Group A for the SEA Games men’s Under-23 football competition with hosts Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. Group B comprises Vietnam, Timor Leste, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei and the Philippines. The football competition kicks off on Nov 3.
