T-Team aiming for place in Malaysia Cup final

Minnows T-Team are aiming high – a place in the Malaysia Cup final.

Playing in only their second Malaysia Cup, the club side have stunned local football fans by beating Sabah 4-2 on aggregate to reach the semi-finals on Friday.

They will play Negri Sembilan for a place in the final.

T-Team coach Yunus Alif believes nothing is impossible. He wants his team to be the second club side to reach the final.

Selangor MPPJ, who were powered by foreigners like Juan Manuel Arostegui, became the first club side to reach the final in 2003. They went on to win the Cup by beating Sabah 3-0 in the final.

“We have never stopped believing in our abilities despite all the negative criticisms thrown at us. We have cleared so many hurdles to get this far. So, I want to see T-Team in the final. We want to be the second club side to ever feature in the final, especially with an all-local content,” said Yunus yesterday.

For Yunus, his team is a mixture of youth and experience.

With players like Indra Putra Mahyuddin, Zairo Anuar, Rosdi Taib, Azizi Mat Rose Tengku Hasbullah Raja Hassan, Mohd Haris Safwan and Mohd Nor Farhan, they have been going great guns in the competition.

Negri, however, are no pushovers. T-Team have lost twice to the Deer in the Super League, 1-3 at home and 0-4 away.

“This competition is the last chance for us to prove ourselves. The semi-finals is over two legs. If we can stay focused, we should be able to make it,” said Yunus.
