A chartered plane will fly the Sea Games football team home immediately after today's final to allow the players to recover for Wednesday's Olympic qualifier against Syria.
The final will be the team's third game in five days and with back-to-back Olympic qualifying home games against Syria and Bahrain coming, special travelling arrangements were made for the team.
Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the Cabinet gave the go-ahead to arrange for an AirAsia chartered flight tonight.
"An AirAsia plane will be on stand-by to fly the team home immediately after the game. We want them to have ample time to rest and recover for the Olympic qualifier against Syria on Wednesday.
"I raised the matter with the Cabinet last week and have received approval to make the arrangements," said Shabery in Jakarta yesterday.
Although 17 players in the Sea Games squad are eligible for the Olympic qualifiers, injuries mean only 13 are likely to be included in the team to face Syria.
Baddrol Baktiar, Asraruddin Putra Omar and Yong Kuong Yong are overaged and will be released once the team return home.
