Injured Izzaq Faris to miss the final against Indonesia in SEA Games

So near, and yet so  far.

That appears to be the predicament for striker Izzaq Faris Ramlan who may have to sit out the SEA Games football final tomorrow, following a leg injury sustained in the semi-final match against Myanmar yesterday.

"I am sure I cannot play as my left knee is swollen from an attack by a Myanmar player," he said.
He has not been listed by under-23 squad coach Ong Kim Swee for the first 11 in the final against Indonesia tomorrow.

"It is sad that I cannot be in action in the final but I am happy that the team succeeded in entering the final despite being placed in Group A, which was considered a difficult group," he noted.

Izzaq was speaking to Bernama while watching his teammates perform light training in a hotel tennis court.

The tall player, who now moves about with the aid of a crutch, said he would probably also miss the action in the London 2012 Olympics group qualifying match against Syria on Nov 23.

Malaysia meets the Middle East team on Wednesday at 8.45pm, at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

On the leg injury, Izzaq said: "The doctors have diagnosed the injury and said I would take about month to recover."

The 21-year-old player from Terengganu sustained the injury in a tackle, a few minutes before the final whistle.

"We hope Ahmad Fakri Saarani and Azwari Ibrahim will rise to the occasion to score the goals for Malaysia," he said.
