Terengganu will be setting up a fooball academy next year, said Stare Youth and Sports Committee chairman Rozi Mamat.
He told reporters here Thursday that RM1 million had been set aside for the academy and that its name would be announced during the opening ceremony.
Terengganu had a football academy previously, from 1995-2007.
It produced players of calibre like Shamsuri Mustapa, Haris Safwan Kamal, Zairo Anuar Zalani, Mohd Sharbinee Allawee, Muslim Ahmad and Manaf Mamat.
Rozi added that the academy would be placed under the Terengganu Sports Council.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has finally agreed to allow Terengannu coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim to take up coaching duties with Selangor.
He said although he had hoped Irfan Bakti would renew his contract with the state team when it expired on Nov 30, he had to respect the coach's decision to seek new challenges.
Irfan Bakti, 60, had brought Terengganu to the final of this year's Malaysia Cup only to lose out 1-2 to Negeri Sembilan.
The last Terengganu won the Malaysia Cup was in 2001.
