Australian club beat Malaysian Olympic squad in friendly

A solitary second half strike by Central Coast Mariners skipper Daniel McBreen ended the Malaysian Olympic squad's hopes of a second consecutive win in their Australian playing tour here Wednesday.

In the match played at the Mingara Athletics Field in Tumbi Umbi, New South Wales, coach Ong Kim Swee's boys who scored an emphatic 3-0 victory over Sydney FC yesterday with goals from Ahmad Hazwan Bakri and K. Gurusamy, failed to find the net despite putting up a spirited display.

The playing tour is part of the National Under-23 squad's preparations for the S-League competition which starts next year and the three 2012 Olympic qualifying matches against Bahrain, Syria and Japan.

Malaysia's remaining Olympic qualifying games are against Bahrain away (Feb 5), Japan at home (Feb 22) and Syria away (March 14).

The team end their tour with a game against Newcastle Jets next Monday (Dec 19) and expected to return home on Dec 21.

According to the www.malayatigers.com website, Kim Swee had made a number of changes to the team that played against Sydney FC.
