Defending champions Terengganu get easier draw in FA Cup

Terengganu open the defence of their FA Cup title against Premier League side Police while Negri Sembilan were handed a plum first-round tie against Johor FC after the draw was made in Shah Alam yesterday.

The Mat Zan Mat Aris-coached Terengganu should have little difficulty overcoming Police while the draw threw up three all-Super League match-ups.

Besides the Negri-Johor FC clash, Super League champions Kelantan host newly promoted Sarawak while Kedah meet 2010 Premier League champions PKNS in Alor Star.

Another exciting match is in store in Ipoh when megabucks Armed Forces, who have signed a host of current and former national players, visit Perak.

Singapore's return to the FA Cup for the first time since 2005 when the Young Lions made the semi-finals sees the newly formed LionsXII go up against FAM League side Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

UiTM are one of six sides from the third-tier FAM League in the draw with Penang, Malacca, Public Services Commission (SPA), SDM Navy and Kuantan Port-Shahzan Muda, who are at home to Selangor, all hoping to create an upset.

The first and second rounds take place over one leg on Feb 8 and March 10 respectively while the quarter-finals and semi-finals feature return legs. The final is scheduled for May 19 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

FA Cup 1st rd: Terengganu v Police, Perak v Armed Forces, UiTM v Singapore LionsXII, Betaria v Malacca, Pos Malaysia v USM, Sime Darby v Sabah, Negri Sembilan v Johor FC, Kuantan Port-Shahzan Muda v Selangor, Kelantan v Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur v Muar Municipal Council, Young Tigers B v Penang, Public Services Commission v Johor Baru City Council, Perlis v SDM Navy, Kedah v PKNS, Johor v Kuala Terengganu T-Team, Felda United v Pahang.
