The national Under-23 football team started their Australian tour on a positive note with a 3-0 win over A-League side Sydney FC yesterday.
Labuan born striker Ahmad Hazwan Bakri hit a brace in the second half after midfielder K. Gurusamy opened the scoring.
Coach Ong Kim Swee said he was impressed with the performance of the new boys and praised the team’s character.
“Hazwan has just returned after a long period out due to injuries and he did well,” said Kim Swee.
“Sydney FC fielded their second stringers and we also did the same as some of the regular starters were rested.
“It’s a good win, nevertheless.”
“I was impressed with right-back Shahrul Mohd Saad. It looks like we have a good backup for Mahali Jasuli.” Kim Swee expects a tougher match against Central Coast Mariners in their second match at the Bluetongue Stadium at Gosford today.
The team end their tour with a game against Newcastle Jets next Monday.
