Super League teams Terengganu, T-Team and Sabah passed the FA of Malaysia’s (FAM) stadium inspections on Sunday and can now hold their matches at night.
The Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, which will be the home ground for T-Team and Terengganu, and the Likas Stadium, home of Sabah, have passed the minimum requirement of 800 Lux needed to host the Malaysian Super League (MSL) matches. (Lux is the SI unit of illuminance and luminous emittance.)
“The lighting at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium showed a reading of more than 1000 Lux and we have agreed to let the two Terengganu-based teams to play their matches at night,” FAM competitions committee chairman Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said at a Charity Shield press conference here yesterday.
“The stadium, however, did not meet the minimum requirement of 1200 Lux needed to host the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup matches at night.
“But I have been told that Terengganu will continue to improve their lighting system to meet AFC’s standard.
“The other teams are fine with playing their matches in the evening … but if they want to play at night, they will have to inform us so that we can conduct the stadium inspection.”
Two Super League sides – Kuala Lumpur and Felda United – have had their requests to play in the evening (4.45pm) approved by the FAM.
Both the KL-based teams will now play their home matches at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca as their shared home ground, the KLFA Stadium, has been closed for repairs.
Hamidin also said that the Negri Sembilan FA (NSFA) will start selling tickets for their season-opening Charity Shield match against Kelantan at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium and the NSFA Office in Paroi from today.
FAM have decided to sell 80,000 tickets for the match, with 32,000 tickets allocated to Negri Sembilan.
Negri will sell the tickets at RM15 and RM30 until tomorrow.
“Kelantan will inform us within the next two days on the number of tickets they want to sell in Kota Baru,” he said.
The Charity Shield, featuring Malaysia Cup winners Negri Sembilan and Super League champions Kelantan will be held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday at 8.45pm.
