Young Tigers B are only targeting to reach the semi-finals in two regional tournament invitations, which begin next month, said team head coach, Ismail Ibrahim.
The two tournaments are the Triangular championship in Singapore from Feb 17 to 21 and the Hassanal Bolkiah Championship (HBT) from Feb 25 to 5 March.
The Selangor former footballer said the target was realistic as most of the squad players this season were new faces from Bukit Jalil Sports School (SSBJ) and from the State president's cup.
"Most of the players are new and they are still in the process of finding compatibility between one another. We hope several tournaments held in the current season, can finalize their playing style," he told Bernama.
The team which is also known as the Under-19 national team, had undergone some changes following transfers such as Mohd Nazmi Faiz Mansor and D. Saarvindran to the Young Tigers A, while Ahmad Faizal Sumar and Muhd Nazrul Kamaruzzaman had moved to the Selangor presidents's cup squad.
However, the team will be reinforced with new players such as, Muhd Ilham Amirullah Razali and Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah Pula from SSBJ and Mohd Akid Ramli from the Kelantan President's cup squad.
Ismail also hoped the new players could exhibit a robust style in both tournaments.
"We started training since Dec 17 because some of them had just completed the examination and their combination has yet to be established.
"I will bring 18 players to both tournaments and I want to see progress in their game," he said.
The squad's best achievement in the HBT championship was when they advanced to the semi-finals in 2002 and 2007, however, the team was defeated 0-1 to Indonesia and 0-2 to Myanmar.
The Triangular championship will be their inaugural participation.
