Malaysia to play Syria in Jordan for Olympic qualifier

Twenty-four  players, 17 of them from the Harimau Muda A team, have been called up for centralised training in preparation for the Asian Zone Group C Olympic qualifying match against Syria on March 14.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said in a statement that the players would report to coach Ong Kim Swee at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya and would train from Wednesday to Sunday.

Malaysia would play Syria on a neutral venue, in Jordan, and the match is just to complete the schedule since the national team has lost all matches in the qualifying round thus far.

Group C comprises Malaysia, Syria, Bahrain and Japan and the national team is at the bottom of the group without any point. The team which heads the group will advance to the next round.

The Malaysian squad comprises Khairul Fahmi Che Mat (Kelantan), Mohd Zubir Mohd Azmi (Terengganu), Ahmad Shakir Ali (Negeri Sembilan), Rozaimi Abd Rahman (Sabah), Ashri Chu Chu (Sarawak), Ahmad Fakri Saarani (Felda United), Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq Badrul Hisham (Selangor PKNS), Gary Stevan Robbat, Shahrul Mohd Saad, Mohd Affize Faisal, Mohd Farhan Abu Bakar, Mohamad Amer Saidin, Mohd Fandi Othman, Mohd Irfan Fazail, Mohd Izham Tarmizi Roslan, Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim, Nazirul Naim Che Hashim, Muhammad Nazmi Faiz Mansor, Muhammad Izuan Mohd Salahuddin, A. Thamil Arasu, Mohamad Fadhli Mohd Shas, Mohd Ferris Danial Mat Nasir, Mohd Azzizan Nordin, D. Saarvindran (Harimau Muda A).
