The Harimau Muda B boys must beat hosts Brunei to keep their slim semi-final hopes alive in the Hassanal Bolkiah Cup (Under-21) football tournament at the National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan tomorrow.
The national Under-19 side have only one point from two games so far after holding Vietnam 0-0 and losing to Timor Leste 2-0.
Vietnam and Timor Leste are the favourites to qualify from Group B with seven and six points respectively. Third-placed Brunei have three points followed by Malaysia (1) and Cambodia (0).
In Group A, Myanmar and Laos are the frontrunners with six points each followed by Indonesia (4), Singapore (1) and the Philippines (0).

Malaysian youngsters get chance for training with Blackburn Rovers
The English Premier League “invasion” continues as three of our national junior footballers could enjoy training stints with Blackburn Rovers FC.
The trio — Muhammad Amin Asraf Yaakob, Shakir Zufayri Ibrahim and Mohamad Faris Shah Rosli — are set to leave for Pune, India next week as they participate in the RoverStar 6-a-side U-16 tournament which kicks-off on Oct 6.
Five outstanding players from the tournament will be selected to undergo an attachment programme with Blackburn Rovers in the UK.
The players — all from Bandar Penawar Sports School — arrived at Wisma FAM yesterday.
They were accompanied by teacher Khairuddin Saisi who will also join the players in India.
The Malaysian boys will join three other Hong Kong youngsters and a couple more from India to form an All-Star team.
Blackburn Rovers’ head of football development in Asia, Serbegeth Singh, admitted they were pressed for time due to the short notice but is extremely happy to get the FA of Malaysia (FAM) involved in the programme.
“We approached FAM and we’re pleased they responded to us quickly despite the short time frame,” said Serbegeth, who is better known as Shebby.
“This is the first time we (FAM-Blackburn) are working together and I do hope to see more local youngsters given a shot playing regional tournaments or even enjoying stints with Blackburn Rovers,” he added.
FAM general-secretary Datuk Azzudin Ahmad confirmed the participation of the Malaysian youths for the tournament as the national body are now in the midst of securing the players’ visas. Travelling expenses and accommodation will be borne by the organisers of the tournament.
The stint with Blackburn is an addition to the many opportunities Malaysian players have had with foreign teams.
Among those who tasted football in the UK include top national hitman Safee Sali, who just returned from a two-week stint with Welsh outfit Cardiff City, while Bunyamin Umar and Badrul Bakhtiar enjoyed training sessions with Chelsea in 2008.

Malaysia go down to Vietnam in AFF Under-19 championship semi final
Malaysia's hopes of making the final of the AFF Under-19 Football Championship suffered a fatal blow after losing 1-2 to Vietnam at the Aung San Stadium in Yangon Monday.
According to the Asean Football Federation (AFF) website, striker Nguyen Xuan Nam scored once in each half to lead Vietnam into the final where they will face favourites Thailand on Wednesday.
Vietnam, unbeaten in the group stage, were expected to overwhelm Malaysia with their awesome firepower which resulted in 18 goals in the first round.
Stunned by the early Malaysian charge, they managed to shrug it off to walk away with a slender victory and a place in the final.
The quick-paced Xuan Nam, a constant thorn in the Malaysian defence made his mark with a superb long-range strike in the 37th to give his team the lead and later sealed it for Vietnam with a header at the near post in the 79th minute.
Malaysia pulled a goal back through Nur Areff Kamaruddin four minutes before the break.
In another semi-final played simultaneously at the Youth Training Centre, hosts Myanmar missed a late penalty to suffer a 1-2 loss to Thailand.
Malaysia will now face Myanmar in the third-fourth playoff on Wednesday.<br

Malaysia hammer Philippines to reach AFF Under-19 championship semi finals
Harimau Muda B took the runners-up spot in Group A when they blasted the Philippines 6-0 in the final group match of the AFF Under-19 Championship 2011 that was played yesterday at the Youth Training Centre, Yangon.
According to Asean Football Federation website, Malaysia needed at least a draw to ensure that they advance into the semi-finals ahead of Cambodia.
They came out with all guns blazing to take a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.
Malaysia added two more goals in the second half to ensure their passage into the next round behind group winners Thailand.
Chief coach of Malaysia Ismail Ibrahim was satisfied with the performance, but cautioned: "Against Vietnam, it will be a totally different game, and we will have to strategise for it."
"I think the players have learnt their lesson from the loss to Thailand which has made them more determined to do better against a side like Vietnam in the semi-finals," he said.
As early as the second minute, Harimau Muda B were in front when striker Muhammad Akmal Ishak kneed the ball past Philippines goalkeeper Nicholas O'Donnell off a free kick from Muhammad Shafiq Azman.
Akmal doubled Malaysia's lead with his second goal of the afternoon off a cross from Mohamad Ridzuan Abdunloh Pula with an exquisite back flick.
The Philippines fell further behind in the 18 minute off an own goal from Joseph Bellezon before the Malaysians wrapped up the first half with the fourth goal on 38 minutes off Mohamad Syafiq.
The chief coach of the Philippines, Maor Rozen, said the gap between the Philipines and Malaysia and Thailand is obvious.
"I cannot ask more from my players as they have given a hundred per cent in this game.
"This tournament has given a good experience to this set of players and they will learn for sure," he said
The remainder of Malaysia's goals were scored by Mohamad Ridzuan in the 51st minute and Muhammad Akram Mahinan in the 60th minute.

Under-19 players given scholarships for further studies
Five national Under-19 players have received scholarships to pursue a Diploma in Football Studies at the Cyberlynx Inter-national College (CIC).
The five will receive RM30,000 per annum. They are defenders Muhammad Ariff Zulkifly, Mohd Syuhiran Zainal, Ahmad Faizal Sumar and midfielder Muhammad Akram Mahinan (pic)and Muhamad Naim Zakaria.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, who received the sponsorship on behalf of the players, welcomed the support from CIC.
“I welcome this effort from the private sector who are willing to help our young footballers,” Shabery said at the Dewan Komanwel in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
“I see this as positive move for the players as it will improve the standard of our football.”
The five players were not present to receive their scholarships as they are with the national Under-19 squad in Myanmar for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Youth Championship.
The team, who are in Group A with Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines, kept alive their chances of making it to the quarter-finals with a 6-0 demolition of Singapore at the Aung San Stadium in Yangon yesterday.

Eton College of England to play friendlies in Malaysia
A football team from Eton College, a prestigious college in England, arrived here today to play a series of friendly matches with the national youth and Pahang youth teams during their 14-day tour of Malaysia.
Featuring among the 20 players onboard the Eton College team is Tengku Abdul Fahad Mu'adzam Sultan Ahmad Shah, who is the son of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president.
Eton coach Andy Jenning said his team was slated to hold friendly matches against the Malaysian national youth teams (U-16 & U-17) and the Pahang state (U-17 & U-18) teams here.
"The friendly matches will be a good pre-season training for the college as Eton is aiming high to secure the crown of the Boodles-ISFA (Independent Schools Football Association) for next season," he told reporters here today.
ISFA, organises the Boodles ISFA Cup, a knockout competition among ISFA member schools.
The team arrived at a leading hotel here this morning and they were received by the Sultanah of Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, FAM vice president Datuk Subahan Kamal and FAM secretary general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad.
Tengku Abdul Fahad, 17, said he was excited to be back to Malaysia and the prospect of playing against the Malaysian and Pahang youth teams.
"We're expecting good results and hope to perform well as part of our preparation for the ISFA 2011-2012 season," he said.
The Eton team will play four friendlies, namely against the national U-16 and U-17 sides at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) stadium and two matches against the Pahang U-17 and U-18 teams, in Kuantan.
