Khairul Fahmi among starting eleven against Arsenal

National goalie Khairul Fahmi Che Mat will be part of Malaysia's starting eleven under coach Datuk K. Rajagobal, for a match against English Premier League (EPL) team Arsenal in a pre-season friendly at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on Wednesday.

Khairul Fahmi, fondly known as Apek, had suffered shoulder injury during an Olympic qualifying match against Lebanon recently.

"He is recovering and may be fielded against Arsenal this Wednesday. This will be the first friendly for him after his recovery before facing Singapore in the second round of the World Cup Asian Zone qualifier.

"Other players are also expected to be up for the game against Arsenal. However, Safee Sali will not take part as he is still injured," Rajagobal told reporters at a hotel, here, Monday.

After facing the Gunners, the Harimau Malaya squad will play Liverpool on July 16 before meeting Singapore on July 23 for the World Cup 2014 Asian Zone  qualifying round.

The return match will take place at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on July 28.

Rajagobal said the Harimau Malaya squad would use the friendly against Arsenal to prepare for the match against Singapore.
"This and later against Liverpool are a good opportunity for the national squad, and I believe in the capability of this young squad to give their best in the World Cup Asian Zone qualifier," he added.
