Khairul Fahmi ready for role if called

Malaysian goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat is ready for the call of duty if national coach Datuk K. Rajagobal decides to replace Mohd Sharbinee Allawee Ramli in goal ahead of the return-leg World Cup qualifiers against Singapore tomorrow.

Khairul, regarded by many as Malaysia's firstchoice goalkeeper, said it was the coach's decision to play him.

The Kelantanese added that he has fully recovered from a shoulder injury that had bugged him lately.

He was among the reserves when Malaysia lost 5-3 to Singapore in the first-leg at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.

"I was fit for the first-leg but Sharbinee was playing well before this. Probably, that was why Rajagobal decided to stick with him," said Khairul.

He missed the matches against Taiwan due to a shoulder injury he encountered while playing for the National Under-23 side in the Olympic qualifiers against Lebanon.

While he did play some part in the exhibition matches against Arsenal and Liverpool, Sharbinee had done enough to impress Rajagobal in competitive matches.

However, Khairul was confident that mistakes made in the first-leg would not be repeated.
"We have fixed the gaps in defence and this will be a telling factor in the match.

"We have viewed the Singapore match video countless times and studied it thoroughly. Now all that is left is for us to execute our tactics tomorrow."

Khairul rose to fame when Malaysia won the Asean Cup late last year. He replaced Sharbinee after a 5-1 loss to Indonesia in the first group match.
