Line-up changes unlikely for Sarawak

The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) has yet to decide on the Crocs’ final line-up for the Malaysia Cup in September.

FAS secretary-general Abdullah Julaihi said the association was reluctant to drop any players because all of them had worked hard to help Sarawak secure second spot in the Premier League.

Selangor PKNS won the second tier league with 57 points, nine points ahead of Sarawak.
The two teams get an automatic promotion to the Super League next season.

Abdullah said all the players were still needed to form a strong team.
“Our focus now is to further develop our players. They should be given the chance to prove themselves against the stronger top-tier teams in the Malaysia Cup.
“After all, they are the same players who we hope will be able to compete with the Super League teams,” Abdullah said, adding that the Crocs were now identifying and working on their weaknesses.

While not denying that FAS was looking for new talents from the local leagues to be absorbed into the state squad, he pointed out that for now, it was better to use the present players.
“Even if we sign new players, we must ensure they are better than our present players,” he said.
Abdullah revealed FAS would conduct a ‘battery test’ for the Crocs at State Stadium ‘Field B’ on July 12 at 2pm “to boost their stamina.”
A few coaches will be invited to help with the exercise.

The state team will receive a RM100,000 reward for their success in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, The Bujang Senang squad will embark on a “Sarawak Football Tour” as part of their buildup for the Malaysia Cup.
Abdullah said during the tour from July 14 to 24, the Crocs would play friendly matches against the divisional teams and also organise clinics for the youths.
“We hope to spot new talents during the tour,” he said.

The Crocs’ first stops will be Betong and Sri Aman on July 14 before proceeding to Sibu and Sarikei (July 15 and 16), Kapit (July 17 and 18), Mukah (July 19 and 20) and Bintulu (July 21 and 22.)
They will journey to Miri and Limbang on July 23 and 24.

After the tour, the Crocs will continue their training in Kuching with friendly matches against teams from the city and Samarahan.

“Matches against Kuching and Samarahan teams are expected to be held at night. Our stadium is now ready to host night matches,” Abdullah said.
