Malaysian players have the ability and talent to beat Singapore in the second leg of their 2014 World Cup qualifier clash despite a two-goal deficit, said Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib, who will be watching the match with about 10,000 fans in KedahThursday night, said the Tigers must have faith in themselves and the tactics determined by national coach Datuk K Rajagobal.
"If they play with great discipline, courage and confidence, I believe they can overcome Singapore.
"As they have the ability and talent to win even though they are two goals down, I am confident they will be able to do so as long as they play as a team and there is no weaknesses in any departments," he told reporters after chairing the 1Malaysia Online Roundtable at the Prime Minister's Office here Wednesday.
Malaysia succumbed to a 3-5 defeat at the hands of Singapore in the first leg of their 2014 World Cup qualifier in Singapore last Saturday.
Earlier, Najib expressed the government and the people's unflinching support to Rajagobal in a telephone conversation while chairing the dialogue.
Rajagobal is among leaders and subject matter experts, who are members of the 1Malaysia Online Roundtable.
Najib said he would be watching the match on a large screen while attending the people's dinner at Dewan Wawasan in Kubang Pasu and assured Rajagobal of the strong support of the people to the Tigers.
"The whole nation is behind our team. I will be with 10,000 people in Kedah and we have decided to put up a giant screen to watch the game. This is to show our support to the national team," said Najib.
Najib said he look forward to a scintillating and spirited performance from the Malaysian team.
"I believe they have the opportunity to cancel the deficit at the Bukit Jalil Stadium by counting on the strong home-crowd advantage," he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants the Tigers to give their best performance.
Wishing them all the best, Muhyiddin said in a statement: "The government and the people of Malaysia are with the Malayan Tigers. Nothing is impossible if we strive fervently and are confident of our capability."
Muhyiddin was confident that the squad was fully prepared to face the match.
