The presence of nine senior players, including five former internationals, is expected to strengthen the Olympic squad that will face English Premier League club, Chelsea on Thursday.
Olympic squad coach Ong Kim Swee said the experience of senior players like Hairudin Omar, Farizal Marlias (N.Sembilan), Amri Yahyah (Selangor), S. Subramaniam (Kelantan) and Shahrulnizam Mustapha (Perak) would be a guiding force for the younger players.
"I hope the players will blend well during the match. All the players invited to join the team will be given a chance to play. Two or three former internationals are also capable of making it to the national squad at any time," he said.
Unlike the matches against Arsenal and Liverpool which saw the senior squad under Datuk K. Rajagobal in action, the Olympic squad will face Chelsea since Rajagobal's boys will be involved in a 2014 World Cup Qualifier against Singapore on July 23, two days after the scheduled Chelsea match.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) therefore decided to field the Olympic squad instead to face Chelsea.
