Sports Minister confident Malaysia can overcome Singapore

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek remained confident that Harimau Malaya would be able to tame the Lions during their return leg of the 2014 World Cup Asian Zone Qualifier on Thursday.

Ahmad Shabery said based on the performance of the team when playing Taiwan, it would not be impossible to overcome a two goal deficit when both teams meet in the return leg at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

"I am confident that our boys will win 2-0 or 3-1 or even 4-2 in the match against Singapore and avenge their 3-5 defeat on Saturday," he said after launching the Healthy Youths logo by Ranaco Group here today.

Though Ahmad Shabery acknowledged that there were weaknesses in the Malaysian defence that looked shaky on Saturday, he was confident that coach Datuk K. Rajagobal would come out with a winning formula.

"I believe the coach (Rajagobal) has a formula to overcome the weaknesses and a strategy to spring a surprise," he said.
