Malaysian coach Datuk K. Rajagopal is hoping to expand his pool of national players by calling up two newcomers and several ex-internationals for two friendly matches scheduled for Aug 10 and 15.
The team will report at Wisma FAM tomorrow and undergo training until Aug 7 before playing Oman away on Aug 10.
Malaysia may play either Indonesia or Thailand in another friendly on Aug 15.
Rajagopal has retained 15 players from the team who lost to Singapore 6-4 on aggregate in the second round of the Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers and called up 10 new faces for training.
Terengganu’s Joseph Kallang Tie and Kuala Lumpur goalkeeper Norazlan Razali are the notable first timers called up for the four-day training camp.
Perak goalkeeper Nasril Nourdin and injured Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Razak have been dropped from the squad.
Eight players – Mohd Farizal Marlias, Mohd Khyril Muhymeen Zamri, Mohd Farisham Ismail, S. Chanturu, Shahrom Kalam, Shahrizal Saad, Faizal Muhamad and Mohd Rizal Fahmi Abdul Rosid – who have previously played for the country and called up for national training were included.
Seven national Under-23 players – Mohd Muslim Ahmad, Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas, Mahalli Jasuli, Izzaq Faris Ramlan, Ahmad Fakri Saarani, G. Gurusamy and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat – have rejoined Ong Kim Swee’s team for a training stint in Slovakia to prepare for the final round of the 2012 Olympic qualifiers.
