Harimau Muda B team’s Saarvindran Devandran is relishing the opportunity to play for Selangor in next month’s Malaysia Cup.
The 19-year-old Klang-born has been signed on loan by the Klang Valley giants for their Malaysia Cup campaign with two other Harimau Muda A players – striker Haziq Zikri Elias and defender Mohd Nazri Ahmad.
The former Bukit Jalil Sports School student showcased his talent by scoring two goals to deny PKNS promotion to the Super League in the final game of the 2010 Premier League season. Harimau won that match 2-1.
The 2010 season also saw Saarvindran scoring an impressive 10 goals for the Harimau Muda B team and proved he has an eye for goals in the 2011 season by scoring six goals although he was deployed as midfielder.
“Playing for Selangor will provide me the chance to prove and test myself against the established players,” said Saarvindran who skippered the Harimau Muda B in the Premier League this season.
“I will try to break into the starting eleven. I know that it won’t be easy but I believe in my ability and I will work hard to achieve it.
“I’m still young and there still plenty of room for me to improve as a player. I’m really looking forward to the loan stint with Selangor, a team I have supported since childhood.”
The Red Giants have taken several measures to land the Malaysia Cup. They have relieved K. Devan from his managerial duty and want him to focus on coaching and guiding the team to victory in the Malaysia Cup which they last won six years ago in 2005.
Selangor’s general secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin will be taking over as Selangor’s manager and will be tasked to motivate the players in their Cup campaign.
Selangor struggled to score in the Super League with the departure of talismanic striker Mohd Safee Sali to Indonesia Super League side Pelita Jaya.
The arrival of Saarvindran and striker Haziq, who played for Stevenage Borough FC in the Conference National League in England, could solve Devan’s blunt strike force woes as Selangor only scored a paltry 42 goals from 26 matches in the concluded Super League this season.
