Football fans who watch matches at stadiums must also adopt a professional attitude to improve the image of football in the country said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
"Fans always expect players to play like professionals but some fans do not display professionalism when watching such matches. They must especially respect the national anthem of our country or other countries.
"Fans must also understand that if there was any crowd trouble, the Football Association of Malaysia will be hauled up and punished, including forfeiting the result," he told reporters after attending a briefing on the achievement of the 2010 Monsoon Cup here today.
Ahmad Shabery was referring to an incident during the 2014 World Cup Asian Zone qualifying match between Malaysia and Singapore at the Bukit Jalil Stadium last Thursday when firecrackers thrown by fans struck a fan in the eye.
Ahmad Jazimin Jalaluddin's right eye was blinded when a flare from firecrackers thrown at the stadium struck his right eye.
"Those responsible for security must also make sure that security control is not only restricted inside the stadium but the entire area so that they can react quickly if there was any untoward incident," he said.
Meanwhile, speaking of the National team, Ahmad Shabery said the FAM should also consider engaging a technical expert to assist coach Datuk K. Rajagobal.
"FAM must receive such a suggestion positively because the opinion was for the good of football in the country," he said when commenting on a report in a local daily that made the suggestion based on an discussion with local academicians.
