FAM vice president wants proper planning over match schedules

FA of Malaysia (FAM) vice-president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin wants the association to stop accepting offers for international friendlies on an ad hoc basis as it is affecting the scheduling of the local league.

Hamidin, also the FAM competitions committee chairman, is unhappy with the decision to accept an invite from Australia for a friendly on Oct 7 as he must now decide on whether to shift the quarter-final stage of the Malaysia Cup to a later date.

The two leg quarter-finals are scheduled for Oct 4 and 8 while the national team are expected to leave for Australia a day before the first leg.

"We must stop fixing international matches on an ad hoc basis. I hope the international calendar is drawn up before the competition committee fixes its dates for next season's M-League," said Hamidin at his Hari Raya open house in Shah Alam yesterday.

"In many countries, local leagues are drawn up in accordance with international assignments but this is done in advance. We must start this practice."

Hamidin said he had presented the Malaysia Cup fixtures for approval to the executive committee with an assurance there would be no interruptions.

"Anyway, we will decide on Friday on the next course of action over the scheduling. If we decide that the dates should remain status quo, then local teams will have to play without their national players.

"If we shift the dates, then the fixtures will be too tight and some teams may blame us for it," added Hamidin, also the Selangor caretaker manager.
