Former Malaysian great Datuk Abdul Ghani Minhat advised national team captain Safiq Rahim and national striker Safee Sali to ply their trade in the United Kingdom if given the opportunity.
"I myself had the chance the play for Cardiff City in 1962 but had to turn it down because I cannot stand cold weather," the 76-year-old veteran said when met on the sidelines of the launching of the Nine-a-Side Invitational for former footballers here Thursday.
His sentiments were also echoed by "Towkay" Datuk Soh Chin Aun, 61, who was household name in the 70s.
Safiq is currently undergoing trials at Cardiff City which is owned by Malaysian tycoon Datuk Chan Tien Ghee while Safee is scheduled for trials at the same club from Sept 12 to 27.<br
