Malaysia’s Harimau Muda B reached the semi-finals of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 football championship when they whipped the Philippines 6-0 at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon, Myanmar, on Saturday.
Needing a draw to pip Cambodia to a place in the last four, the Malaysians grabbed a comfortable 4-0 at half-time in the Group A clash. Striker Muhammad Akmal Ishak was on target twice. Joseph Bellezon of the Philippines scored an own goal while Mohamed Syafiq Azman contributed the other goal.
In the second half, Malaysia continued to surge forward. Mohamad Ridzuan made it 5-0 in the 51st minute and Muhammad Akram Mahinan completed the scoring on the hour mark.
With the win, Malaysia finished runners-up to Thailand, who whipped Singapore 3-0 in their final group match.
Malaysia, coached by Ismail Ibrahim, will play Group B champions Vietnam for a place in the final. The other semi-final is between Thailand and hosts Myanmar.
