Selangor prepare to meet Singapore in Sultan's Cup

Selangor is counting on national striker Safee Sali and two imported international players to strengthen the team against Singapore in the Selangor Sultan's Cup at Shah Alam Stadium on Oct 1.

Championship committee chairman, Datuk Abdul Karim Munisar said his side would seek the permission of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) to bring home Safee from the Pelita Jaya Club of Indonesia to boost the Red Giant.

He said, the two international players who had played in the English Premier League had also been identified, and, his side would make an announcement, after getting a written consent from them.

"We hope a combination of local and imported players will be successful in bringing back the prestigious cup to Selangor," he said during an evening tea at a hotel, here, Wednesday.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, who was also present, received contributions of RM1.7 million from sponsors. Among the sponsors were Benalec Sdn Bhd (RM300,000), Syabas (RM200,000) and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (RM200,000).  The championship would open with a match between veteran teams at 8pm. The  Selangor-Singapore match would take place at 9.30pm. Other attractions were a performance by local artiste Amy Search, a fireworks show and parachute jumps.

Sale of tickets would begin on Sept 12 at RM10 each from Quality Hotel Shah Alam, Quality Hotel City Centre Kuala Lumpur, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam, Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur, SACC Shopping Centre, and Shah Alam Stadium.

The early birds promotion would also be held on Sept 12 at Quality Hotel Shah Alam from 10an to 3pm.

The 10th edition of the Selangor Sultan's Cup this time is also to be held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the reign of Sultan Sharafuddin. The last time Selangor emerged champion was in 2008.
