Selangor still struggling without Safee Sali

Selangor have pledged to bounce back from their shocking 1-0 defeat by T-Team in their opening Malaysia Cup Group D match at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Tuesday.

National skipper Safiq Rahim has called on their fans not to lose hope or give up on them yet.
He feels that the Red Giants would slowly peak before showing their true colours.

“We are trying get into our rhythm but life’s not easy without our top striker Mohd Safee Sali. We are trying and we hope the fans will be patient and give us time to get things right,” pleaded Safiq yesterday.

Safee left Selangor early this season to join Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya FC on a lucrative one-year contract.

Selangor are in dire straits this season. Coach K. Devan’s men are trophyless so far this season.

They lost the season-opener Charity Shield match 2-0 to Kelantan and finished third in the Super League. They were also knocked out from the semi-finals of the FA Cup after losing 6-2 to Kelantan on aggregate.

Safiq believes that they have the material to go for a record 33rd Malaysia Cup title.

“I feel that with good team work we can make a strong bid for the coveted Malaysia Cup, which we last won in 2005,” he said.

“We have a problem with scoring goals and we are aware of that. But the fact is we have an experienced set of goal-scorers in Mohd Amirulhadi Zainal, Rudie Ramli, Mohd Fadzli Saari and Mohd Amri Yahyah.

“Even our defenders can score. I admit that our finishing is not up to the mark yet but we will improve and we will get positive results from the remaining matches.”

The other teams in Group D are Kuala Lumpur and Police.

Selangor will play Police next at the Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday. Kuala Lumpur got off to a great start in the group when theY beat Police 3-0.
