Terengganu continue winning run

Terengganu continued their winning ways in the Malaysia Cup competition after edging PKNS 3-2 in a close Group B match at the Sultan Ismail Stadium here yesterday.

Despite playing on a wet pitch, the Turtles turned on the style by opening the scoring as early as in the first minute through Mohd Ashaari Samsudin after some nifty touches by Joseph Kallang Tie.

However, their joy was short-lived as Mohd Fauzan Dzulkifli equalised for PKNS eight minutes later following some confusion in the Turtles’ defence.

But Terengganu wasted no time in going ahead again in the second half when Reeshafiq Alwi scored from close range following a superb pass by Abdul Hadi Yahaya. PKNS hit back to equalise a second time through substitute Mohd Norhisham Hassan in the 62nd minute – barely seconds after coming on for Razi Effendi Suhit.

It was then anybody’s game as both teams went in search of the winner. And it was Terengganu who made the breakthrough when Abd Manaf Mamat converted from the penalty spot in the 79th minute. The penalty was awarded after one of the PKNS players handled the ball in the box

Terengganu then had to ward off PKNS’ onslaught to bag all three points. In another Group B match, Negri Sembilan hammered Sime Darby FC 5-0 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
