Coach Ong Kim Swee taking a gamble on injured players

Malaysian U-23 coach Ong Kim Swee may pick players with minor injuries for his 20-man squad for the Sea Games in Jakarta.

Those in the crock list are defender Amer Saidin, midfielder Gary Steven Robbat and strikers Wan Zack Haikal Wan Noor and Wan Zaharulnizam Wan Zakaria but they are all responding well to treatment.

Malaysia, the defending champions, open their Sea Games Group A campaign against Singapore (Nov 7) followed by Thailand (Nov 9), Cambodia (Nov 13) and Indonesia (Nov 17).

"Those injured have a good chance of returning to full fitness during the Sea Games. I will assess their progress before naming the squad in one or two days," said Kim Swee.

Malaysia earned a great morale-booster for the Sea Games by thrashing Laos 4-1 in their final warm-up match at the Shah Alam Stadium yesterday.

Laos led 1-0 at half-time but the heavy downpour after the breather helped Malaysia as they managed to score four goals.

Syahrul Azwari hit a brace while Fandi Othman and A.Thamil Arasu scored a goal each.

Kim Swee admitted he has yet to find the right combination in his team at the moment.

"I hope to get things right in training before we leave for Jakarta on Friday. I wanted to test strategies today (yesterday) but the rain spoiled my plans," added Kim Swee.
