Selangor lose to Singapore again

Singapore completed a hat-trick of Sultan of Selangor's Cups after an Asraruddin Putra Omar own goal gave them a 1-0 win over Selangor at the Shah Alam Stadium yesterday.

Even the presence of guest players, Jesper Blomqvist, Jason McAteer and Safee Sali could not prevent Selangor from going down to Singapore for the third consecutive year.

Asraruddin was rendered helpless when the ball took him by surprise and bounced into the unguarded net in the 66th minute after goalkeeper G. Jeevananthan completely missed the ball off a corner.

Until his unfortunate error, Jeevananthan had been invincible in keeping Selangor in the game with a string of fine saves to deny Aleksandar Duric, Hafiz Rahim and Isa Abdul Halim
In an earlier kickoff at the same venue, Selangor Veterans defeated their Singapore counterparts 3-1 with Dollah Salleh turning back the years by scoring twice.

The 47-year-old Dollah showed he has lost none of the touches which made him a much feared striker in the region during his heydays with his opportunistic brace.

Both sides featured a host of great players from years past with Datuk Soh Chin Aun taking the skipper's arm-band at kick-off before being withdrawn after 13 minutes with Selangor 2-0 ahead.

P. Maniam, the current Selangor caretaker coach, put the Selangor Veterans ahead in the eighth minute before setting up Dollah for the second goal five minutes later.

Abdullah Noor reduced the deficit for Singapore Veterans with a long-range shot in the 17th minute which gave goalkeeper Rashid Hassan no chance but Dollah restored Selangor's two-goal lead in the 40th minute after knocking in Shahrin Majid's centre.
