T-Team aim for important away goals against Sabah

Despite expecting a hard challenge from Sabah in the first-leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals match on Oct 10 at the Likas Stadium, Terengganu’s T-Team will focus on getting valuable away goals.

Coach Yunus Alif said his players would go all out in attacking Sabah who are very strong playing at home.

“Going against Sabah on their home turf will be very hard as the stadium atmosphere and their fans can be intimidating. However, our players will not be scared of Sabah as their main aim is to score a win.

“We will be going for away goals so that we can finish them off in the second-leg at home,” said Yunus.

He is also wary of Sabah’s counter-attacking play and will be training his players to be extra sharp in defence and not concede any easy goals.

Yunus said his players would be fresher as none of them are involved in the international friendly between Malaysia and Australia on Oct 7.

“We have a slight advantage as our players will benefit from the extra rest ahead of the match.

“All players are fit with no major injury problems,” he said. Yunus said he would not be satisfied with a draw in the first-leg. “A deadlock in the first-leg will lead to very tricky situations. I told the players that only a win and a healthy number of away goals will do,” he said.

Yunus said upon reaching the knockout stage, it was the time for key players such as Indra Putra Mahayuddin to shine.

“We have reached the do-or- die stage. The players know Sabah stand in the way of them reaching the semi-finals.”
