Indonesian forward Titus Bonai, who struck in his side’s 2-0 semi-final win over Vietnam, said yesterday the hosts will have to be on their guard against a dangerous Malaysia today.
Bonai said the defending champions had already proved they are capable of upsetting Indonesia with a 0-1 win in the group stage.
“The Malaysian team are very strong – we lost to them the other day.
“What we need to do is stay on guard and work tight as a team,” said Bonai.
“If we do that, I’m confident we can win.”
Malaysia scrambled to a 1-0 win over a plucky Myanmar in their semi-final match, also on Saturday, but will be boosted by the knowledge they have already beaten the hosts and silenced the hostile home crowd.
Fellow Papuan Oktavianus Maniani said Indonesia were ready for the final.
“They (Malaysia) are a good strong team with excellent players, so we’re going to do our best and see what the result is,” he said.
