Terengganu Menteri Besar wants coach reconsider decision to quit

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said hopes coach Irfan Bakti will reconsider his decision to quit Terengganu next season.

Ahmad Said said he would discuss the matter with Irfan and the Terengganu Football Association (TFA).

"I will discuss the matter with both parties and hope he (Irfan) can continue coaching Terengganu because he has brought success to the team," he said.

He added that it was not his intention to interfere in the FA's affairs but felt Irfan's services was still needed by the Terengganu team which has improved by leaps and bounds under his guidance.

Under his tutelage for the past two seasons, Terengganu won the FA Cup, finished as the runner-up in the Super League and runner-up in the recently concluded Malaysia Cup.
"I am happy with Terengganu's achievement and Irfan's performance. I hope he can stay on longer," he said.

Yesterday, the Kelantan-born Irfan, 60, told reporters that he would not extend his contract with Terengganu which expires on Nov 30, although he felt his tenure with Terengganu was his best experience.

Meanwhile, TFA president Datuk Che Mat Jusoh said former Kuala Lumpur player turned coach, Mat Zan Mat Aris, would take over from Irfan who is said to be heading to Selangor.

Mat Zan who coached Pos Malaysia this season will certainly have a tall order when he steps into the shoes of Irfan.
