Kelantan striker Norshahrul wins second consecutive MVP award

Hotshot Norshahrul Idlan Talaha of Kelantan bagged the double again in the 100PLUS-Astro Arena-FA of Malaysia National Football awards yesterday.

The 25-year-old Norshahrul took the “Supermokh Most Valuable Player” (MVP) and best striker awards for the second consecutive year.

The coveted MVP award has been renamed the “Supermokh MVP” with a cash prize of RM5,000 – up from RM3,000 previously.

Norshahrul, who beat team-mate Khairul Fahmi Che Mat and Selangor midfielder Safiq Rahim for the coveted title, played a key role in Kelantan’s Super League success with 17 goals this season.

“The Supermokh MVP award means a lot to me as I am the first recipient. It’s a great honour as it is named after the legendary Mokhtar Dahari. It will inspire me to improve further,” said Norshahrul, who hopes to play a key role in helping Malaysia retain the Suzuki Cup in the Asean Football Federation Championships next year.

Irfan Bakti, who led Terengganu to FA Cup glory, was named the best coach over M. Karathu (Kelantan) and Norizan Bakar (Perak).

National goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi retained the best goalkeeper award for the second consecutive year over Terengganu’s Mohd Sharbinee Allawee and Negri Sembilan’s Mohd Farizal Marlias.

Harimau Muda A midfielder Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor was voted the most promising player while seasoned campaigners Norhafiz Zamani Misbah of Negri Sembilan and Safiq were picked as the best defender and midfielder respectively.

The FA of Selangor and PKNS FC were voted the best FA and club side respectively. The winners were decided by the votes cast by 28 coaches from the Malaysian Super League (MSL).

Datuk Ng Jui Sia, the CEO of F & N Holdings Bhd and FAM deputy president Tan Sri Annuar Musa were among the dignitaries present at the awards ceremony.
