Selangor's new player confident they will do well next season

Selangor’s new signing from Congo, Lelo Mbele, is confident that the Red Giants will be ready to flex their muscles when the Super League kicks off next week.

He believes that the appointment of Irfan Bakti as coach and the signing of him and Lebanon’s Ramez Dayoub would greatly enhance the team’s chances of tasting success in the Super League and Malaysia Cup.

The last time the Red Giants won a trophy was in 2010 – when they bagged the Charity Shield and Super League.

Irfan certainly comes with the right credentials, having led Terengganu to FA Cup victory, second placing in the Super League and the Malaysia Cup final last season.

But first Mbele will have to fully recover from a ruptured thigh muscle he suffered last sason.
The Congolese striker suffered the injury while plying his trade with Libyan club Al Naser, forcing his contract to be terminated by the club.

“I hope to be 100% fit and to hit the ground running when the league kicks off on Jan 10,” said the 24-year-old Mbele.

“This has been an extremely good week for us, especially after we finished strongly in our last game against Pos Malaysia. We hope to take this form into the Super League next week.”

Dayoub too was impressive in the 2-0 win over Pos Malaysia, with his excellent long balls to the strikers and steady play in defence winning over the crowd.

The Lebanese international has settled in well with the team.

“My personal aim is to win a trophy but for that to happen the team will have to have a winning mentality.”

Selangor have played seven friendlies. They won six – Sime Darby 2-0, MP Muar 5-0, Police 3-0, MP Muar 2-1 Johor 4-1, Pos Malaysia 2-0. Their only loss was to Johor FC (2-0).
