Malaysia beaten by Syria in Olympic qualifier

The ongoing civil war in Syria failed to dampen the spirit of their Olympic squad who beat the Malaysian Olympic squad 3-0 in an Asia Zone Group C Olympic Qualifying match at the King Abdullah International Stadium in Amman, Jordan, Wednesday.

In the Asia Zone Olympic Qualifier, Malaysia were drawn in Group C with Japan, Syria and Bahrain.

With the latest result, Malaysia had lost all its home and away matches to Japan, Bahrain and Syria.

The last time Malaysia qualified for the Olympics was in 1980 (Moscow Olympics) but did not play due to an US-led boycott of the games as a protest against Russia's invasion of Afghanistan.
